Beastie Boys ~ So What’cha Want

CANCER is a motherfucker

Earlier this year I bought 2 tickets for my brother’s birthday to see one of our favorite groups, the Beastie Boys in concert at the Hollywood Bowl. I just got a shocking email today saying that the concert has been cancelled because MCA was recently diagnosed with cancer. Damn! Another person hit by the big C. Read & watch below for more info.

BEASTIE BOYS PERFORMANCE AT HOLLYWOOD BOWL ON SEPTEMBER 24 CANCELLED
ADAM YAUCH DIAGNOSED WITH PAROTID GLAND TUMOR

Adam “MCA” Yauch of Beastie Boys was diagnosed last week as having a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland. Luckily it was caught early and is localized in one area, and as such is considered very treatable. It will however require surgery and several weeks of additional treatment. Fortunately the cancer is not in a location that will affect Yauch’s vocal chords.

Beastie Boys have canceled all upcoming concert appearances to allow time for Yauch’s surgery and recovery. The release of the band’s forthcoming album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 will also be pushed back.

Paraphrasing from a video statement on Beastieboys.com, Yauch said, “I just need to take a little time to get this in check, and then we’ll release the record and play some shows. It’s a pain in the neck (sorry had to say it) because I was really looking forward to playing these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later.”

I’m praying everything goes well with Adam’s surgery & radiation. Hope he’ll still be able to rock the mic after his treatment.

Giggles

As I was preparing breakfast this morning I noticed the baby shower invitation for Riann & Joe on the fridge. It reminded me that I still needed to buy a baby shower gift for them. I glanced at the two cards indicating the different stores they’re registered at. But since I was starving from work I decided to prioritize and eat my breakfast first. I watched an entire episode of Top Chef Masters, washed some dishes and put a load of clothes into the washer before I went online. Since I’ve been to the BabiesRus website before I wanted to check out the other baby store that Riann was raving about. I remembered that the website to the store was fairly easy: www.giggles.com

I was SO confused. I wondered, “Maybe this is a joke Edwin is trying to play on everyone?” But then I thought, “There’s NO way Anna would let Edwin get away with this considering the invitations went to friends AND family.” So, I went to the kitchen and looked at the registration cards again and saw that it read: www.giggle.com.

Oops, my bad! What a difference 1 letter makes.  Did anyone make this mistake too?

BLACKsummers'night

I was planning on going to Best Buy yesterday to pick up Maxwell’s BLACKsummers’night album but was busy all day with the fam celebrating my mom’s birthday. You’d think I’d be able to wait another day or two to be able to go into the store to buy the album since it’s been 8 long years since the man’s last record. But, being the impatient gal I am I gave in and bought the deluxe version off of itunes. My man Maxwell did NOT disappoint! This BLACK album is apparently the first of three albums he plans to release in this series. The sound is organic, soulful, sexy and dirty. It’s definitely going to be on repeat for awhile. The 5 Days of Black video that was included in this version gave a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the album which I think was worth the $12.99 alone. It’s a rare glimpse of the man at work doing what he does best. And although I l fell in love with younger, Afro-sportin’, thrift-store wearing version of Maxwell 13 years ago. I’m really diggin’ the older, more mature, clean-cut, suit & glasses-wearing man he’s now become. This is probably my favorite record off the album so far. It’s classic Maxwell. Enjoy.
